Annie Tempest is one of Britain's best loved cartoonists. In 1993 Annie embarked upon her current internationally acclaimed cartoon strip 'Tottering - by - Gently' for 'Country Life Magazine'.

Tottering-by-Gently is a village in the fictional county of North Pimmshire, where Lord and Lady Tottering reside at their ancestral home, Tottering Hall. Annie Tempest's prints are based on Lord and Lady Tottering (Dicky and Daffy), their daughter Serena and their grandchildren, Freddy and Daisy. Through Dicky and Daffy's extended family, Annie Tempest casts her gimlet eye over everything from inter-generational tensions, the differing perspectives of men and women, to dieting, field sports, and much much more.

Her now international following proves that she touches a note of universal truth in her exquisitely detailed and beautifully executed cartoons as she gently laughs with us at the stuff of life.

Annie Tempest

'Annie Tempest has a great talent. She has similar cult appeal to Osbert Lancaster and has created her characters from a certain set, but her observations are social as against political. They are gentler and beautifully observed. Annie Tempest is a bit of England - she articulates the things which set us apart and which form our identity.'

AT
THE O’SHEA GALLERY

Historically, antiquarian print dealers like The O'Shea Gallery have sponsored and promoted contemporary artists who they felt complimented their recognized areas of specialization. And so, in 1995, The O'Shea Gallery sought and was granted the Tottering warrant … in 1996 it launched Annie Tempest's first exhibition, 'Tottering - by - Gently in Mayfair'. 120a Mount Street soon became the residence of Lord and Lady Tottering until the move in 2003 to No. 4 St. James's Street. This exhibition of Annie's heralded the start of the Country Life centenary year and was a huge success. It not only projected her onto the international stage but for the first time it gave her audience around the world a focus and a place of access to her work.

Since that launch, the Gallery has promoted the Totterings at numerous sellout events both in the U.K and in the U.S.A involving such prestigious sponsors as Holland & Holland, Berry Bros. & Rudd, Champneys and The Sloane Club. As a result of the highly successful three year launch programme, it was decided in October 2003 that Tottering - by - Gently should operate as a company in its own right. The O'Shea Gallery is owned by Raymond O'Shea who acts for and on behalf of Annie Tempest, handles the sale of all her original drawings, publishes, promotes and distributes her books, print runs and cards and licenses Tottering products world wide.
